![]() | All newly certified PMPs must perform a continuous skills and knowledge improvement to maintain their certification. They have to earn Professional Development Units (PDU) that prove this continuous improvement. There are several ways to earn PDUs. The webinar (WEB semINAR) is one smart way to earn PDUs from your office. |
I have tested a free webinar on IIL website. This website is providing free 1 hour courses that allow you to earn 1 PDU. Once you have chosen the course, you need to register before the event. My advice is to hurry to register, as there are many participants willing to earn PDUs like you.
Before the course takes place, you need to configure the E-learning client and perform system checks on your computer (recording, sound volume, network bandwidth...).
Don't forget also to check your personal profile on the IIL E-learning website, especially your Time Zone. This is mandatory to check, otherwise, you may miss the appointment as all conferences are shown in an American time zone by default.
When it's time to connect to the e-learning session, go back on IIL E-learning to enter the event.
The following screenshot shows you the e-learning client interface. By the way, you can also see on this picture that among the 73 participants to the webinar I attended, only 3 people were non-Americans (2 Europeans and 1 Chinese).

This client allows you to hear the speaker and follow the presentation on the slides, but it also allows you to interact as if you were in a real training room. For instance, for the above screenshot, the trainer enabled all participants to show their country on the map. The green and red marks are used to answer "Yes" or "No" to the teacher's questions. You may also discuss through the Chat interface, or even "raise your hand". In this case, the teacher will give you the right to speak on the microphone to ask your question.
The next screenshot shows you one interactive screen where the teacher can launch an online poll... At the beginning the participants don't see the results, it's a very impressive way to check if the participants are following the course or just dreaming in front of their PC !

To summarize my experience, I really advise you to participate to those e-learning events, all the more that they're free of charge, and open to a wide audience - PMPs or non PMPs.
But of course, if you need to maintain your PMP certification, you should not rely only on these 1-hour training sessions to earned the required 60 PDUs in three years ! I also advise you to use the other ways of earning PDUs: complete training courses, self-directed learning, articles publishing or training events/supports realization. I will publish information on those alternative ways to earn PDUs later on.
Comments:
Apart from PDU earning, it is giving more information on the topic with good presentation.
I've attended 3 Webinars so far.
All are useful
