As mentionned in my previous blog note, we have decided to change our provider. We have choosen textdrive (aka TXD).
Their plan offer are really amazing. Amoung all features offered, we have particularly appreciated the support of:
- Apache 2
- PHP5
- Subversion (a Software Configuration Management tool)
- Ruby On Rails
The support of Subversion is really great and how to use it in a new blog note. Stay tuned.

Separate your registrar, your domain and web hosting providers -

For technical reasons, we have decided a few days ago to change our web hosting provider. Our former provider was doing all the job.
This time we have decided to clearly separate the several services using several providers:
- the registrar is where you buy and renew your .com domain
- the domain name service provider is a company that will host a DNS for you
- the web hosting provider is someone in charge of hosting your web site files
There are several benefits to separate these services:
- each provider is (supposed to be) a maven in his job
- you can often benefit of lower prices using this method
- changing a provider is less a problem
The last point deserves some explanations. If I want to change the web hosting provider, I only have to change some parameter, usually using a web interface from the domain service provider. It's really easy.
The only drawback is that you have several companies with several bills, several contacts and so on.
For us, we have decided to use the same provider for the registration handling and for the domain name service. It's the famous dyndns. For the web hosting, we have choose textdrive. But this is another story I must tell in another blog note...

| We have migrated our blog yesterday to the latest version of b2evolution (0.9.1 - Dawn version). This upgrade will offer you a better performance and a quicker access to the posts, and will also considerably decrease the spam on our blog. After the first tests, we can confirm that this new release of b2e is really faster than the earlier versions. We strongly encourage all b2evolution users to migrate to this new release ! |

Yes, you have dreamt of it and Google did it. Google has launched Google Reader a RSS reader on the web. It's Ajax-based... For example, you can type "j" to go to the next article or "k" for the previous one. Nothing special for a rich client but pretty new for a web-based GUI. Of course, do not forget to type "Baccou Bonneville" and to subscribe to Baccou Bonneville Blog RSS feed. Google is clearly making a clever use of Google Sitemaps (it's because our blog is registered using a sitemap that you can retreive it in Google Reader). |
