I'm have discovered some really nice little features on Firefox and I want to share them with you. |
Keywords
Like you (I guess), I'm using more and more web sites. Of course they are often bookmarked but for those I use regularly I was wondering if it was possible to type a keyword. For example, I want to type "blog" and it just goes on http://www.baccoubonneville.com/blogs. Good news: in Firefox, it's possible (whereas it's not in IE). Just right click on the bookmark and choose the "Properties" menu. In the "Keyword" field, type the keyword you want. That's it. Now, I have a lot of shortcuts like "del" for my del.icio.us, etc.

Subscribe to RSS feed in Firefox If you are reading this blog note, you are currently visiting Baccou Bonneville blogs; so if you are using Firefox, you must have a icon on the bottom right called "Add live bookmark for this page's feed" like in this screenshot. |

If you click on this icon, you will have a menu to subscribe to RSS or Atom feeds. This will create an entry in your Firefox bookmarks. But they will be live bookmarks; that means, the bookmarks will be updated regularly according to the feed changes.
Multiple home pages using multiple tabs
If you want your Firefox to open with multiple home pages in multiple tabs, just go in Tools | Options menu, click on General and put "http://www.google.com | http://baccoubonneville.com/blogs" for example in the Home Page Location(s) field. This will open google.com and Baccou Bonneville's blogs in two tabs. This tip was found in this note by Ajit Burad.
HTML validator Firefox extension
For people who are developing for the web using HTML and CSS, I highly recommend the HTML validator extension for Firefox. This validator based on the HTML Tidy library adds HTML validation inside Firefox. The errors and warnings are really well explained with very useful BAD and GOOD examples. When the page is valid, a green checkmark is displayed in the bottom right corner of Firefox. Note that HTML tidy is also available as an Eclipse plug-in.
Increase font size
If the page is well developed (if it uses CSS correctly), you can increase the font sizes using CTRL++ and decrease it using CTRL+-.
Hyperlinks drag & drop
On a web page, you can drag & drop an hyperlink on the Bookmarks Toolbar to have a shortcut on this link.
Comments:
Especially the addons are very helpful . Personally I like the webdeveloper addon, using it every day. Only can recommend to uninstall IE and stay with FF
